Family dogs are a great addition to any home! Whether it be a small or big family, dogs provide love and affection as well as security and safety. There are a few different ways people go about bringing in their new family member, either adopting from a shelter or a site like Craigslist, or buying from a breeder. Families who are looking for a specific breed or a puppy are more inclined to first look into adopting from a breeder. Here are some charts of different dog breeds of all sizes and ages that you can find at the Austin animal shelters.
Some reasons people might adopt from a breeder instead of an animal shelter is that they might think of the dog to have something wrong with them. This is a stereotype for shelter dogs that has to change. According to ASPCA 3.3 million dogs are entered into animal shelters annually nationwide. Of those 3.3 million, 670,000 dogs are euthanized. Many of these dogs are exactly like the ones breeders are selling, but instead are just in a shelter. There are many different reasons dogs are brought to an animal shelter other than being "bad dogs". Some owners get a dog and find that they don't have the time or adequete resources to keep the dog. Natural disatsters are also a factor for shelter dogs. When Hurricane Harvey went through Houston, it left thousands of dogs abandoned and lost all over the city. The table below shows the breed and age of dogs and the reason they were brought to the shelter.

Her boys love to go on adventures all over the central Texas area. They are some of the most well behaved dogs and love unconditionally.
Annslee passion for dogs is what drives her to make a site all about dogs. She wants to bring attention to animal shelters and prove that shelter dogs are not misfits. Too many dogs are being put in shelters and having to be put down because of the competition there is with dogs being sold by breeders. Shelter dogs have just as much love to give and are a great addition to any home!
